Cosmetic, organic and natural products, is it the same thing?
First of all, let’s talk about cosmetic products in general, namely their original definition: “A cosmetic product is a substance or mixture invented to applied on the various superficial parts of the human body (skin, hair, nails, lips) or with teeth and oral mucosa membranes to clean , perfume , protect andalter their aspects. Also, to keep them in good condition or to have betterbody odours.” In brief, cosmetics are health care and beautification products with superficial actions only. This category consists of make-up, face and body care, shampoos, hair-removing and hair products, perfumes, soaps, shower gels and bath salts as well as sunscreens.
Cosmetic products may contain excipients, active ingredients and additives.
Choose your organic or natural cosmetics
In your usual cosmetic products, you can find mineral and vegetable oils (such as palm oil), silicone, emulsifiers, humectants and gellings of synthetic origin, or synthetic preservatives, dyes and perfumes. For the so-called “BIO” products, you will find the same components but they must be strictly of natural origin. For example, exclusively plant-based materials will be used for oils, or gums as a gelling agent, or else preservatives authorized by organic labels. Thus, it is possible to find synthetic products but still of natural origin.
As for the case of natural cosmetics, synthetic components should not be found. They contain 97% of vegetable oils, the rest is dedicated to essential oils. The only preservative allowed is tocopherol (Vitamine E), a natural antioxidant. The goal is that there are no unnecessary additional constituents. These types of products are labelled “100% natural.”
